The Columbarium + Memorial Garden is located in a reclaimed existing interior space adjacent to the sanctuary at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The project contains approximately 150 columbarium niches, an open air chapel, intimate gathering spaces, a memorial wall, and a new monument sign.
The space uses the color and material pallet of the existing church: native fieldstone, limestone, and granite. The form of the space is dictated by lines established in the irregular form of the existing church. In addition to serving as sound barriers, the continuous stone and granite walls create a tranquil courtyard that extends the space of the sanctuary from the east facing glass walls of the church to the open air chapel, thus connecting the church's past and present.
