The new glass and art studio for Ed Pennebaker and Carol Corning is situated in a wooded area on a three-acre site near their home in Clinton, Arkansas. The new Red Fern studio building houses much of the equipment originally located in their previous studio and farm in Osage, Arkansas. Whereas the previous studio had various elements of the glass art process spread about, the new studio brings it all under one roof. Taking cues from the older barn shapes of the Osage location, the new studio takes a similar profile and aesthetic. Upon entry, patrons are welcomed in a double height space displaying some of Ed’s chandeliers. Opposite of the retail space, the new studio is also designed with high ceilings and a lot of natural light to accommodate the assembly space for Ed’s tall sculptures and chandeliers. This space includes the glass furnace and metal work/ welding area and is well ventilated. On the lower floor, accessory spaces such as a bathroom and storage, separate the retail and studio. Above this area is an office loft looking down into both the retail space and studio.
