Hailing from Jonesboro, Arkansas, Tim Maddox received his B. Arch from the University of Arkansas in 2002. During his years at the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design, his studies focused on small town morphology and urban form.

His travels include class trips throughout the United States and a five-day hike on the Incan Highway from Cusco, Peru to Machu Picchu. In spring 2001, he studied in the School of Architecture and Design’s Rome Studio. During his final semester of school, he traveled to Nova Scotia, studying under Canadian architect Brian Mackay-Lyons, to design a school located at the foundry in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, a UNESCO world heritage site. He also spent time in the megalopolis of Mexico City studying the architecture of Luis Barragan, Mario Pani, and others.

In November 2008, he became a principal at DEMX Architecture. Garden & Gun Magazine named Tim one of 21 “New Faces of Southern Style” in the August/September 2010 issue. In 2011, Northwest Arkansas Business Journal named Tim a “Forty Under 40 Honoree.” Tim also received the 2012 AIA Arkansas Emerging Professional Award, and two years later he was awarded the 2014 AIA National Young Architects Award.
