Vetro 1925 is located east of the historic downtown Fayetteville square. The design respects and acknowledges the historic shell of the building while simultaneously utilizing Italian precedents to create a new modern restaurant. The design becomes an exploration of new versus old. The glass storefront, inspired by the folding glass façade of the Florence train station, becomes a modern insert in the historic front while leaving the original craftsman-style clearstory windows in place. Within the storefront is the ever so prominent illuminated glass ribbon. The colors change effecting the mood of the interior space while casting a unique light on the dark wood finishes and celebrated interior brickwork. The ribbon wraps through the space and continues through the delicate glass storefront connecting the interior to the exterior. White-painted sheet rock walls and ceiling, industrial wine racks and shelving become new architectural elements juxtaposing the old.
