We are approaching the official start of summer, so if you have a small backyard space in need of refreshing, and you are lacking seasonal inspiration, here’s some of our favorite balcony and patio design ideas.
#1 DATE NIGHT
How romantic is this balcony! Dress up your small space with some small hanging lanterns and plants to decorate your railing. Simple outdoor furniture is perfect for this space when the colors of love are in the air (*cue the rose petal trail*) and candles are flickering against the burgundy colors of your wine.
#2 JUNGLE IN THE CITY
This little hideaway is a cute little spot for an escape from being inside all day without having to be too far from home. Loving the faux-fur draped over the couch, and the greenery surrounding the space (including the painting on the wall!). Lace flags and Edison bulbs decorating the railing makes this spot more ~yours~ and the pillows and floor rug make this a cozy spot in cooler summer nights (because we all know the days drift away). You could recreate this look using items from West Elm, Target, and even DIY if you have the time (and need some me-time on top of that).
#3 COUCH AND CANDLES
Some people might move into a new place and find they don't know what to do with the even tinier balcony or backyard space that came with their new digs. Well here it is! There's just enough room for a side table, small rug, and a cushion-y, comfy couch to tuck in on one side. If you choose to go with this route, invest in some plastic coverings of some sort to protect it from bad weather. Whether the sun's out or it's an overcast day, this is a snuggly spot for a glass of wine (or cup of coffee, depending on the time of day) and your favorite book. Gosh, we just want to curl up right now.
#4 NATURE LOVE
Want to really invest in redecorating your patio? Check this one out. The main table is concrete and goes swimmingly with the rustic wood and grey tones of the couch. Depending on your yard space, surround your patio deck area with foliage and greenery of all sorts. Add a couple old glass bottles and dishes for flowers and other table accessories (succulents are a great option). Greens against browns and greys = nature love, right in your very home.
#5 BACKYARD GETAWAY
These wooden roll-up Venetian blinds are perfect to tie any patio in and make it its own individual space. Notice the wooden chaise lounges and deck tiles. Against the green grass (freshly cut!), it's like a little resort in your own backyard. Roll them up when you want to watch the kids toss the dog's frisbee or play with the Slip 'n' Slide (or when there's stormy weather). Roll them down when you want a little privacy and some shade from that hot, hot sun.
#6 LATE NIGHT TALKS
See? Hanging lights on the metal railing adds a homey touch to any space. This patio features doormats as personal rugs for each chair and the golden touches glisten with each lit candle (OK, it's possible this might be a rustic holiday-themed patio... But you can do this with daisies and sunflowers and any bright colors that make you feel like summer has arrived).
Think you'll try any of these, or do you have bigger and better plans for your outdoor entertainment area? A backyard makeover can make all the difference (and will give you a new project if you're feeling stuck). Happy designing!
